Tying knots behind your head?! Sweet.
Tying a one-handed bowline knot? Yup, we do that too.
But, be careful. Knots can be deadly.
We went for the geocache. We stayed for the other things.
Five scouts and a friend showed up to brave the cold while the other scouts slumbered safely in their warm beds. We promise not to think less of them. Some people are just heartier than others. Or, maybe they were studying for their SATs…
Well, we didn’t find the cache. We played soccer (football to Leo, the Spanish exchange student), explored, hiked and generally had a pretty good time. Everyone agreed that we may want to return for further exploration when it is not 15 degrees (-9.5 for Leo) and windy. Check out the pictures if you need proof that we had fun. Loren brought along a pretty awesome dude named Leo who started out with an unbridled fearless attitude for the cold and winded up fully ready to head back in. I believe he said that it was the coldest he had ever been in. See more pics.
Any scout will tell you. We do NOT go around chopping trees down. When we need firewood while camping, we have to find felled wood. However we at 599 (kind of) have our own mini-forest where we are able to do chop chop chop. We are clearing a small area in a secret, undisclosed to the public, “forest”. At this area, we are learning and practicing our skills of chopping down trees, splitting those logs, lashing awesome structures, making fire rings, and even creating our own flag pole. Plus we see things I can not mention here….. Check out the pics
The scouts continued work on first-aid. This is one of the skills that I think everyone expects a scout to know, so I was pleased they wanted to do this. Some of the things I saw made me proud. Some things scared me.
Thankfully, they ended up with more knowledge than they started with. The leaders LOVE to see scouts teaching other scouts. EDGE is awesome. After the first-aid work, these fine gentlemen of the PLC took time to plan further meetings.
We recently went through the training program, Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops.
That’s us!
Everyone present is now entitled to bear the “Trained” patch
It was a few weeks ago, but we had such a good time and we are pleased with the scouts, so here are some pics to relive the fun!
PLC choose First Aid as the topic for the next few meetings. SM likes this because this is one of the core things that every scout should know. In an emergency, if it is known that you are a scout, people will turn to you for what to do. So far, scouts are doing well and participating. Keep it up, scouts!

599 continues to churn out Eagles. The best Eagles. We had the honor and privilege to welcome Mr Erik to the Eagle’s nest. Everyone was happy to see such an awesome young man ascend to his rightful place. We wish him the best and we know we will see him again.
SM’s fave pic is below. Peep the gallery for more.
After a too long hiatus, the 599 website is back. This will once again be the one-stop-shop for all things 599 related. Calendar, forms, info, etc will be available here.
